The Life of a River, Andy Russell
1 Andy Russell The Life of a River
Toronto McClelland and Stewart 1987 0771078781 / 9780771078781 First Edition Hardcover Near Fine in Very Good dust jacket
HC/DJ - near fine/very good. Book is from the Writers Guild of Alberta library and has a few ex-lib type markings, including a front pocket and spine sticker. Hardcover is clean and tight, with minimal wear and no markings other than as above. Dustjacket has light age tanning, light scuffing and very light edgewear, no tears. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; “For those with eyes to see, a river can be a living link with our past. ” In this unique blend of history and reminiscence, Andy Russell tells the story of the Oldman River, running east from the Rocky Mountains. He recalls his personal encounters with the land and the people; the astonishing role this area has played since the Ice Age as the only ice-free passage on the continent; the ancient peoples who lived and hunted along its shores; the coming of the first white explorers, and then settlers; and finally, the dam that will destroy the river. Part memoir, part history, part passionate defence of nature, this book is an “emotional and fascinating tale” (Saskatoon Star-Phoenix). (465not,0514)

EAGLE'S PLUME The Struggle to Preserve the Life & Haunts of America's Bald Eagle, Beans, Bruce E.
3 Beans, Bruce E. EAGLE'S PLUME The Struggle to Preserve the Life & Haunts of America's Bald Eagle
University of Nebraska Press 1997 080326142X / 9780803261426 First Edition Softcover Very Good+
Ex-library book, but still in very nice condition - sturdy laminated cover and usual ex-lib type markings. Only light wear overall - light soiling outer edge of pages, interior clean and tight, b/w illus. ; 8vo; From Publishers Weekly: Since 1970, action by government, organizations and individuals has brought the bald eagle from the brink of extinction to a measure of recovery; it is now listed as threatened instead of endangered. Environmental writer Beans here spins a captivating story of the eagle's significance in American culture and its current status in the American wilderness. In Florida, a retired Canadian banker spent more than 20 winters banding eaglets; in a New Jersey swamp, a biologist built an artificial nest to attract nesting birds; in the West, undercover agents of the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service pursued a widespread traffic in eagle parts and feathers. Beans charts the eagle's comeback in New Jersey, Virginia and Florida; problems of habitat destruction and pollution remain. In Alaska, he finds the nation's greatest congregation of eagles on the Chilkat River, now a bald eagle preserve. An inspiring volume for the environmental bookshelf. (425-noto)

Priceless: the Vanishing Beauty of a Fragile Planet, Bradley Trevor Greive
4 Bradley Trevor Greive Priceless: the Vanishing Beauty of a Fragile Planet
Andrews Mcmeel 2003 0740726951 / 9780740726958 First Edition Softcover New
New book with small remainder marking bottom edge of pages. Slight shelf wear to cover. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; "There may be no more effective argument against environmental devastation than gorgeous photographs of adorable endangered animals-and this book is packed with them, accompanied by heartfelt entreaties about the looming extinction of dozens of species. Australian author Greive (The Blue Day Book; The Meaning of Life) writes an impassioned plea for environmental consciousness that glides between poetic ("you are the whole world, not just the space inside your clothes") and matter-of-fact ("It seems clear that our species is destined to be the cause of the sixth extinction"). The accompanying pictures by wildlife photographer Mitsuaki Iwago are captivating snapshots of disappearing animal worlds...." [700]
