Cassell Illustrated Dictionary of Lacemaking, Alexandra Stillwell
1 Alexandra Stillwell Cassell Illustrated Dictionary of Lacemaking
Cassell 1997 0304341452 / 9780304341450 Hardcover Very Good in Very Good dust jacket
Ex-library book, but still in very good condition - laminated cover and usual ex-lib type of markings. Pages are clean and intact, light soiling upper edge of pages. Jacket has some scuffing, a little edge crinkling and a couple areas where laminate is slightly loose at edges. 1997 reprint. ; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 253 pages; "Stillwell includes more than 2,000 entries in a comprehensive guide that explains the phraseology and details the technical aspects of this ancient craft. An abundance of black-and-white line drawings are featured to illustrate those stitches, designs, implements, and materials traditionally associated with lace making. Where confusion exists regarding contemporary terminology versus older usage, Stillwell clarifies and provides cross-references. Her dictionary should be as valuable to the beginning student of lace making as it will be to one who is already immersed in any aspect of this fine handwork. " (655, 0211)

Zapotec Weavers of Teotitlan, Andra Fischgrund Stanton; Foreword by Scott Roth
2 Andra Fischgrund Stanton; Foreword by Scott Roth Zapotec Weavers of Teotitlan
Santa Fe, NM Museum of New Mexico Press 1999 0890133344 / 9780890133347 First Edition Softcover Good+ Illustrated by Jaye R. Phillips
Ex-library book, but still in quite good condition - laminated cover and usual ex-lib type of markings. Pages are clean and intact, light age tanning to page edges. Laminate on cover has scuffing, light scratches, creasing to rear cover and light wear to edges. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 114 pages; The Spanish introduced wool yarns and the fixed-frame pedal loom of a type still in use today. The Mexican Revolution saw a celebration of indigenous crafts and the opening of the Pan-American Highway in 1948 brought Teotitlan's weavers to the craft markets of Oaxaca. American importers in the 1970s infused textile production with new energy, resulting in today's dizzying variety of works that range from modernist motifs to Navajo geometrics to ancient and historical patterns reprised in vivid and colourful contemporary designs. Zapotec weavers express their sense of well-being and belonging in what they weave, and the tapestries and rugs that are currently produced reconcile ancient history with the ways of the 21st century marketplace.
