TAMSIN, Beagle, Peter S.
3 Beagle, Peter S. TAMSIN
Roc Trade 2001 0451458206 / 9780451458209 First Edition Softcover Very Good+
Clean and unmarked, small remainder marking bottom edge. Very light edge and corner wear to cover, light scratches across rear of cover. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 288 pages; Like his enchanting The Last Unicorn, Beagle's newest fantasy features characters so real they leap off his pages and into readers' souls. Tamsin Willoughby, dead some 300 years, haunts ramshackle old Stourhead Farm in Dorset, England, an ancient 700-acre estate that 13-year-old Jenny's new, English stepfather is restoring. Thoroughly American Jenny, miserable at being transplanted from New York City to rural Britain, finds a suffering kindred spirit in Tamsin, a ghost who is mourning Edric, a love she lost during Dorset's punitive Bloody Assizes under King James II. Tamsin leads Jenny through an engrossing night world inhabited by an array of British spiritsAthe Black Dog, a braggart Boggart, ominous Oakmen, the shapeshifting Pooka and a marvelous mystical army-booted Earth Mother. To save Tamsin and gentle Edric from eternal torment, Jenny faces evil personified: demonic Judge Jeffries, who sentenced hundreds of people to brutal execution during the Assizes. Slipping effortlessly between Jenny's brash 1999 lingo, the raw primeval dialect of ancient Dorset and Tamsin's exquisite Jacobean English, Beagle has created a stunning tale of good battling evil, of wonder and heartbreak and of a love able to outlast the worst vileness of the human heart. Fantasy rarely dances through the imagination in more radiant garb than this. [245-osl? ]

NIGHT RELICS, Blaylock, James P.
4 Blaylock, James P. NIGHT RELICS
Ace Hardcover 1994 0441000223 / 9780441000227 First Edition; First Printing Hardcover Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket
HC/DJ - near fine, 1st printing. Pages are clean and tight other than a few earmarks seen. Cover has light soiling to one upper edge and a little bumping to spine ends. Jacket has light scuffing and light edge crinkling. There is a light stain to inside of jacket but this cannot be seen from the outside. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 311 pages; "A ghostly wind blows across the valleys of Southern California, scattering pieces of a long-forgotten story of murder and revenge across the lives of a group of people whose own struggles resonate to the tale's dark music. The author of The Paper Grail (Ace: Berkeley, 1992) invests a complex story of failed marriages and shady business deals with mythic overtones as elusive as the eerie wind that forms the primary motif of this hauntingly moody novel. Gracefully written and splendidly told, this is a strong candidate for fantasy and general fiction collections." [462]

Edgewear to book and jacket is very light, no tears. Mylar cover is scuffed - jacket is lightly soiled and age tanned. Outer edge of pages has a few spots and library stamp on top edge. Interior pages are tight and clean for the most part, however the last section of pages, from 169 on has intermittent spotting/staining, which appears to be coffee stains. One of the more stained pages is shown in the photos. Some are just on the edge. One of the front endpages has a light stain to one edge. There are no other markings or earmarks within the book. Front flap price clipped. 8vo (8.5" tall) , 199 pages. "Carrie White could produce motion in objects without contact or other physical means.
