At the Height of the Moon, Eric Malpass
41 Eric Malpass At the Height of the Moon
London Heinemann 1967 First Edition Hardcover Very Good in Very Good dust jacket
Very scarce hardcover edition. By the author of Morning's at Seven. Ex-library with only partial spine sticker to jacket . A few other library markings and partially removed back pocket with some glue residue. Edgewear very light - jacket clean, tiny peeled area on spine, light soiling outer edge of pages, not price clipped. Pages all intact and clean other than the library stamps, 3 lines underlined on 2nd to last page and a little soiling on first endpage. Gaylord, that incredibly charming 7 year old, handles everyone (or so he imagines) with devilish cunning. It's only in Momma that he meets his match - and though he would be horrified by the suggestion, in his small cousin, the dreaded Emma. For, with appalling suddenness, the close-knit Pentecost household is disrupted by the arrival of three young visitors: David, an enignma; the lovely Jenny, who to Momma's alarm, "likes mature men" and Emma. At the same time danger appears in the lanes and meadows of the warm English countryside, and fear waxes strong with the pale light of the moon..... (400); 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall

Simon & Schuster 2003 068985191X / 9780689851919 First Editon Hardcover Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket
Excellent condition - ex-library with laminated cover & usual stamps & stickers - only very light wear overall. Clean & tight. Charming water colour illustrations throughout. From School Library Journal: PreSchool-Grade 3-Hannah Mae never gives up on her dream of becoming a cowgirl, despite the fact that she lives in the city. Her roping skills are deftly honed by tying together drapery cords; her herding skills are carried out with a "herd" of hamsters. She's a cowpoke, through and through, and her talents come in mighty handy when she visits Uncle Coot, way out West. Although a bit long for storytimes, this delightful tale is sure to please wanna-be cowboys and girls. Ernst's art and the oversized format suggest the soft, muted tones and expansiveness of the prairie. Written with a subtle sense of irony, this blue-ribbon choice, so comically endearing, is irresistible. Yeehaw! ; 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall

" Red Riding Hood said, "I find your sexist remark offensive in the extreme, but I will ignore it because of your traditional status as an outcast from society, the stress of which has caused you to develop your own, entirely valid, worldview. Now, if you'll excuse me, I must be on my way. "Leap into a fairy-tale world where trolls are "dirt-accomplished and odor-enhanced, " witches are "kindness-impaired, " and Cinderella wears a gown "woven of silk stolen from unsuspecting silkworms. 1st Scholastic edition 1972. Pages all intact and clean other than tiny name stamp on first endpage. Light age tanning to pages and covers. Cover has minor edgewear and light scuffing, couple small creases. A true story of a happy-go-lucky girl and her impossibly funny family .... ; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; Review: "....The bizarre and true stories about Hildegarde Dolson's family are so funny and so clearly written that I can still remember them, even though it's been ten years or more since I last read the book. For instance: in an attempt to make the yard more "interesting" her mother buys a goat and lets it eat its way randomly across the lawn, instead of mowing it. Her sister was such a "dish" as a child, with bright blue eyes and "hair the color of goldfish", that a neighbor child kept biting her. Finally, the biter's mother was forced to bite her, to show her what it was like! When Hildegarde finds out that she's a bit bowlegged, she wears a fringed tablecloth tied around her waist to go swimming, and nearly drowns in front of the boy she was trying to impress. ..."
